Mystery of the Whisper

Project: CD packaging for The Cruxshadows’ Mystery of the Whisper
Skills: Photoshop, Quark, photography, quill pen

This was a project for a CD packaging class at Watkins College of Art & Design. The goal of the project was to do a fantasy redesign of packaging that already existed, so I chose this album by dance-goth band The Cruxshadows (pronounced “croo-SHA-dows”).

The Big Idea:

I tried to capture the idea of what a whisper might look like, while coupling that with gothy-goth Victorian lettering. The result: an absinthe haze inspired photo shoot that involved me, colored light bulbs and a fog machine stuffed into the dark confines of my bathroom (and my cat once again thinking me insane). The lettering was done by hand with india ink and quill pen, using a font as a basis. Two years later, The Cruxshadows used the very same font on their ep Birthday.
